my first juniper

today i was wondering around the local nursery and could not resist the urge to buy a little juniper. got it home and gave it a trim. i will also repot it as its root bound in the nursery pot. I want to wire it but im not sure how to wire it im thinking wind swept or semi cascade. i wanna hear what you guys think as im not sure what else i could do.

After you have nursed it/them back to health maybe look at incorporating them into a group planting?

No real reason why, I just had that idea after looking at the pictures.

when i repot it ill sit it upright for a start, then ill decide what to do. a group plating is something i had not considered.
i just hope the little thing lives after i brutally attacked. lol.. its in the shade atm gave it a water and a feed see how i go in two weeks.

they can handle a good root pruning so dont be afraid,

i was thinking i should do that too. i might wait till it recovers first then in about 4 weeks prune the root and repot it.

Hi bazron, good on you for getting a juniper.
In the future I would think about choosing one of the trunks to work with as they are moving away from each other. I wouldn't rectify that via wiring the trunks either, as they are both of similar thickness.
If you agree??? when you cut one off, leave a stump as you may wish to use it as a low jin?
I like the idea of an elegent/feminine upright trunk with some movement in it.
Just my opinion from looking a your pic. Have fun whaever direction you chose to take your ree in

if i were to remove a trunk id take the left one off. i guess ill consider it for a later date.

I have suggested this to a couple of people already, but if you would like any kind of worthwhile design advice for this tree, please post pictures that are larger than thumbnail size.

Hi Mojo, I agree with you

I ususally right click on a pic and open it in a new tab (9 times out of ten when I click on a pic AB has been automatically doing this for me of late

).
However you view the pic, just press the control and the + key (to the left of backspace in the top right cornor of the keyboard) at the same time to magnify the image...control - does the oposite.
However sometimes doing this does affect the focus/clarity of the image, but not always.
It works for a PC and I assume it is the same on a MAC too.

for Style ideas, get pics taken just above soil level so the viewer perspective is right to work with and also resise to about 800x600 pixels works well.

i was looking online and found this pic

i was think i could make the right side of my tree the same if i wraped it up and dent it. is now a good time to wire and wrap.

also should i use raffia to wrap it as it is about 2cm thick?

If it were mine-first I would check the roots just below soil level then consider tilting to the left so that the rh trunk is where the lh trunk is at the moment-(or visa versa depending on the nebari)to do this you may have to repot into a larger growing pot-- feed well and grow on for a season or two

I would check the roots just under soil level before deciding on any action--the roots could make you want to make it a semi cascade or to tilt opposite and remove the right trunk instead--the lower rh trunk looks quite straight near soil level whereas the lh trunk has more movement down low ---depending on where you would cut ----just some thoughts
