Toowoomba Bonsai Group meeting - Tony Bebb demo photos

Post by Stewart_Toowoomba »

Hi everyone

Here are some photos of the recent Toowoomba Bonsai Group meeting with guest tutor Tony Bebb. (photos used with permission)

Tony worked with many members and their trees during the Saturday workshop, then after lunch enjoyed his demo of styling the club juniper.

As you can see, this juniper had been damaged by direct sunlight whilst in the car being driven home the previous meeting :palm: . The top had been damaged and browning off. However the trunk was recovering and you can see the tiny growth in the long section of the mid trunk. It was recovering nicely.

Tony pointed out a clear deficit to the tree, being the long, straight and uninspiring mid trunk and general reverse taper. He gave us some options and the members decided what was to be done. It took a while but the clear concensus was... "Off with it's head!"

Head gone and with the preferred new angle.

This was the demo tree that Tony styled last year. Believe it or not, it had a 6 foot cascade hanging down from the left hand jin and proved a very dramatic styling. Looks great now though!

Thanks again Tony for the terrific weekend  . A thoroughly good time had by all for sure. Looking forward to next year  I hope all members can see the benefits of being a member of your local bonsai club or group!

Hi all,
I received a bonsai this Christmas after being interested in the art for many years, but worrying I'd unfortunately kill the plant. I'm still worried I'll kill it!

I'd love to attend a meeting. When is the next scheduled meet-up?

Thanks,
Bec

Welcome to one of the world's most addictive but satisfying hobbies.

The Toowoomba bonsai group meets at the first Saturday of the month at the CEDAR Centre at USQ, just of Baker St. The meeting commences around 10 am and continues until we are bonsai-ed out. You are more than welcome to attend.

Cheers

Mark
