Hi
I have this sick maple, does anyone know what is wrong with it? It has a mould like powder on its leaves.
Any ideas or suggestions? I have given it a few sprays with some confidore.
Thanks
Matt

May be powdery mildew. So try to increase the ventilation around it so there is lots of air movement. maybe just remove the worst leaves and let it get better?? Confidor is for insects, you could try a fungicide. maybe avoid watering the leaves I'm not sure.
Shouldn't kill it though ...

Hi Busta , mate nice looking setting . I {a closer shot would help identify it also a discription of you watering practices and fertilizer used} It could be powdery mildew , but that usually happens when there is to much foliage not open as in this one and the moisture is held inside the canopy for too long , not enough air flow to dry the excess moisture inside the conopy . Alternatively it could also be a build up of soluble liquid fertilizer on the leaves . .If it is any of the above i would defoliate and destroy the leaves not in the compost and place in the shaded area until it re-sprouts new leaf growth growth . Before doing this wait for a definite conformation you may be able to eliminate it with a spray treatment . If your watering the foliage try watering the base only .

Re: sick maple
Thanks for the help.
As far as watering goes, i water tmy bonsai when they dry out and i water the whole plant, leaves and all. I don't think that it is a problem with the canopy being too full. You can see by the pic that it isn't that full. I have not been feeding it too much because it has been sick for a while, all i have been giving it is seasol.
Here are some close ups of some leaves.
Thanks again for your input.

Re: sick maple
Yes, powdery mildew, i.e. a fungus infection. Yates Rose Gun Advanced contains the fungicides that will get rid of it, or you can ask your garden centre for a spray, or you can search the web for an organic fungicide. I saw in passing that there are quite a few, including milk. Note: you can get rid of the fungus, but regrettably not of the damage it has done. Affected leaves are best removed, they will never look like their old selves again. Give the maple some good fertiliser to help it make new foliage (I swear by Power Feed, but you may have other swearing preferences).

May i suggest that you take off your sick leaves take it out into the sun and jet spray the whole tree. leave it in full sun as they thrive in it. First year you might get a little bit of leaf burn but they acclimatise. in Japan these are used as street trees along with Gingko's and palmatum's
