Strange Growth
Hi all,
In the pics below there is a strange growth on the tree.
Firstly who can correctly identify the tree?
Secondly who can correctly identify the strange growth>
PRIZE! Absolutely nothing unfortunately except a warm feeling for being first and right.

Re: Strange Growth
Swampy, seed pod. I actually have a few on one of my trees - thought it was a bit early though

Look closer at the pod!
Are you sure it is the pod of a swampy? Is it the right size and shape?

Correct!Bougy Fan wrote:How about Taxodium mucronatum ?
It is not fully filled out yet but is of course the seed pod.
What i find strange is that it is hard up aginst the trunk. I have never seen that before.
Anyhow this tree was collected as seed itself in 1974 and is in fruit for the first time that I have observed.

Re: Strange Growth
Yah
Well the swampy I have has got cones for the first time too. I didn't realise they grew all the way through summer before going brown and opening in winter
Then again I only look at the park trees when they start shedding to see if I can collect some seed.
