NZ Christmas Bush

Post by matty-j »

hey guys i picked up this NZ Christmas Bush for $25 today hiding in the back of a nursery
it has been in this pot for a very very very long time it had split the bottom of the pot
and had grown out the bottom and through the pavers underneath
so with some twisting and pulling i got it out and into my car (which it only just fit in  )
so i had to cut the pot off when i got home
i cut around 1/3 of the roots off and removed some thicker ones growing around the pot
i was impressed how fine the root system is on this tree i was expecting very large roots in there
i gave it a good hack but left it very tall as i have no idea about this type of tree
i read a post on here that said they were prone to die back so i didnt want to chop low
and it to die back to the base
where i want to reduce the hight on the largest trunk there is one leaf if i cut back to just above
this leaf will it be enough to stop die back?
i was thinking on leaving this as a 3 trunk and have it semi cascading off the low outside trunk

for the moment it is soaking in some seasol for the next 24 hours

what do you think?
any advice would be fantastic

cheers

Maybe give it a full season to grow and get strong - shoots can always be taken off later.
