Crab Apple Air-layer?

Hey, I'm looking for opinions & advice.. to Air-layer or not to air-layer.. to leave as one tree or to create 3 new shohin...

The trunk looks to have a graceful swing to it - make the most of it. I suspect you're not quite sure what to do with the branches - you could maybe cut them back to the first two fat buds next spring, and start to grow some structure, directing the shape as you go.

I like the taller more graceful trunk myself.
I woud chop it at the second set of branches you have ther tho.
there is no taper in the section above that juntion so would remove it there and then wire one of those branches up as the new apex.
Keep it at that height. Cut back branchine hard and build ramification.

It'd be a shame to chop this nice little tree up, I reckon. It's got nice natural curves to it.

Hey Gavin, cheers for your input!... I also like the swing in the trunk!! (i had it in a 3clamp for 8 months to help extentuate it!).. the taper is a worry in my eyes though. Also i am not sure what to do with the branches ~ you are correct. Thanks for the good advice!!!

Hey ken, i also like the more elegant attributes of this thinner trunk with good movement.
i agree the height needs to be contained and better taper created!.

Also cutting branches back hard then directing new growth flow.
