Rebirth of a Chinese elm Shohin

In a thread started by Hessian aka Mario. He showed us a beautiful little Shimpaku. There were suggestions of a pot. Mojo Myogi rightly said no, at the moment it needs to grow, if it were and elm no probs.

Well here is a little project started for that very reason to show how quick and forgiving the little buggers are. Plus they do make nice tree,s quick time.

This tree was started as a rather large cutting on the 28th=-08=2008. It was let grow pot was changed roots were pruned twice no work on roots or branches proper.

Up till now it was just left to grow to prove that they are very quick. I have said many times that I re visit all my tree's at least once per] year to look for ways to improve them.
A quote by Lindsay Bebb on his last visit, ( Bonsai would be boring if we could not improve a tree ).

very interesting pup, it does show how forgiving the elm really is doesnt it, big roots big branches and then in probly no more than an hours work, BOOM, gone. and the beginnings of a great little tree. when i seen this i was quite concerned on how big the branches where and was wondering how you was going to deal with them, i should of guessed it.

i look forward to seeing the tree in the future

Interesting Pup. It seems you are saying this was repotted Today. I know Elms are tuff and all but is this the best time? I have a little variegated elm that might be about this size. I thought I gave the roots a decent work out last repot but it definitely needs more as I can still see a tuber from the surface. I might have to start the roots again. I hacked the branches off a while back but still not happy where I am at.
Will have to drag it out and have another look after this post.

It raised $110-00 for the coffers of the Bonsai Society of W.A at our annual auction this year, as far as I know it is doing well. On Wednesday I have to pick up a trailer, from the guy that bought it so I will take my camera and see what it is like now.

I look forward to the update too Pup. I saw a Chinese Elm for the fist this week at the local dahlsens store and fell in love So a purchased the best 2 at $10.00 each....
The size of the leaf and delicate branching is what got me hooked.

That has been discussed with the new keeper. If it is not adressed, he will end up where it was.
Bringing a higher branch down, and more to the back for depth. Should do the trick
