Canberra Bonsai Society Annual Show
Every year, in October, the Canberra Bonsai Society holds it annual show to allow members of the public to view the bonsai artistry of CBS members. This year the CBS show is on the weekend of the 13-14th October at Daramalan College, cnr Morphett & Cowper Streets Dickson.
Apart from a top class exhibition of native and traditional bonsai, during the day there will be ‘continuous’ bonsai activities including demonstrations of bonsai artistry, a bonsai “hospital”, and sales of plants and bonsai equipment. A small entry fee applies.
The CBS show coincides with Canberra’s Floriade Festival (this year from 15th September to the 14th October), which draws thousands of visitors from Canberra and interstate. The National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia is also located at the Floriade venue providing an opportunity for Floriade visitors to see some of Australia’s best examples of bonsai. CBS members act as volunteers and guides to the collection.

Re: Canberra Bonsai Society Annual Show
Shibui bonsai will have a sales stand at the Canberra Bonsai show again this year. Don't be shy, we look forward to catching up with Ausbonsai members whenever we are out and about - and there will definitely be great trees on show and lots of interest in the demos and other attractions.
See you there.

There is probably a message in there LLKand if last year is anything to go by, all the best plants will be sold to the volunteers who help with the setting up of the show, well before the other club members and visitors have access to them.

Also some really great plants on the club sales tables

Re: Canberra Bonsai Society Annual Show
I paid a visit yesterday and also thought the show was very good. I appreciated the fact that the bonsai were not crowded and were allowed their own space so I could view each one in its own rite. My favourite was a Coastal Tea Tree, so I have attached a photo.

For a slide show of the exhibited trees, see http://www.cbs.org.au/index.php?option= ... =51&gid=54 and for Leigh Taafe's demo, see http://www.cbs.org.au/index.php?option= ... =51&gid=53
There were three trees that I thought were worth First Prize, but I'd like to show just Peter Hanrahan's Eucalypts, which did not receive much commentary. They were quite extraordinary, imposing and so evocative of nature. Its position, without a plain background made this bonsai difficult to photograph, so pleae excuse the quality of the pics here.
Exquisite, unequalled art, Peter!
