New Pots Australian

Here are a couple of old trees in new pots both are by Lorraine Simpson from Mornington sth of Melbourne. Both are collected Melaleuca rhaphiophylla.

Love the semi cascade pot. can't beat the rustic pots for our natives. That second mel is stunning too, beautiful stuff.

Those trunks are beasts!!! Did you reduce the roots to almost nothing when you dug them, or have the roots been pruned back over the years?

Pup, you are one of the best exponents of the art of Bonsai. Particularly natives.

Rather than cutting it off maybe you could wire the top pad down a little more to produce a similar visual but with more complexity/fullness than the virt?

I rarely think this, but I wouldn't cut it.

Craig you know I have mentioned this to some others with that agast look on there faces. It has been at the back of my mind for a long time, but as this was collected with the help of my estranged family, I am reluctant to do that, but Scotts idea might work. It might also mean the Shohin pic will have to change.

Put on the back burner for now.

I would go with Scott's idea also, much better than taking the apex off a really great tree.

p.s- Pup, sentimental value aside , take the saw outside and cut the top of. .
imo, and without needing to tell You;
The trunk is very powerful , it has great flow and direction, not to mention age.
The branches and foliage mass are too heavy for the trunk .
When i view this tree what grabs my attention is the crown, with it's naturally upright growing branched and foliage.
The trunk should take center stage, which for me it does not.

I for one think the crown has done a great job of supplying the extra food needed to allow the trunk to thicken over the years, but

This Melaleuca rhaphiophylla which is an outstanding BONSAI in it's own right , needs to be taken to the next level.

I for one do not like my second virt and if it were my tree would remove the entire crown, cheers

Great trees and the pots are really well-made and compliment the trees beautifully.

removing the entire crown then focuses on the pot far too much so a new pot would have to be obtained and it would need to be squarer

This tree was posted, after I did a little tweaking with some wire , then it was a casualty of the gremlins that have hit the site again.

Well not to be out done hopefully it will stay around.
So here again is the subtle wiring done on the tree which I am happy with.
