I think this tree needs a professional photographer in a studio taken at high res.
Its a great tree, fantastic colour and I think would go well in a book or magazine.
Young and hostile but not stupid.

Thanks Grant,
That's one beautiful tree. Is it yours or part of the National collection?

Don't be so critical mate. It's a good shot taken from the perfect viewing height. With a quick tweak and crop it looks almost professional.

Im not being critical like that, I'm saying it needs to go into a book. I think It needs that extreme high rez you see in books like best in Europe books that you can only get in a professional studio.
Do a best in aus book...

Hi all, I agree about the need for better photography and hope to have a better camera and studio style lights soon.
In the mean time I am taking basic photos evry three to four days.

The tree was grown in Canberra by two local artists and is on loan to the national collection and was positively glowing yesterday.

A book of best of australian bonsai/penjing is a good idea and long term goal.

In the meantime support all the conventions, seminars and workshops you can by attending.

Slightly more colorfull today. Almost all the inner green has turned yellow and even more red on the tips, plus it still has a little way to go I hope.

It literally glows at the moment! It was repotted in spring and defoliated in December. It was regularly fed, watered and kept tidy. Quite easy really once you have fabulous trees to work with and live where it gets cold.

Hey Grant great work. Is this the maple that you where moving up and down the bench following the shade during summer heat?
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Yep thats the one. We had 4 days in a row of plus 40 degrees celcius and it was in the hottest part of the collection so I put out a special portable table for it in the shade during the day and then moved it late afternoon to another protected spot.

Anyhow all the work paid off and we got through with no leaf burn at all; and the pay off is the autumn color.
