We had a big frost last night and the tree dropped a lot of leaves. I was hoping for a full canopy of colour but after jet spraying :palm: to get rid of spider webs and last nights frost this is what is left. Oh well :fc: there is always next year.

Hi Mr Bodhidharma , haven't you learnt yet , you take the tree inside and when the lovely wife does the house work you get her to run the "vacuum cleaner" over the tree :tu: , yes it work's as long as its on a low setting .

Cheers Alpine

This tree is to be repotted next week and pruned back to every second bud on the secondary's and tertiary's. I will post it then as it going to get a new pot. I will show the tree pruned so you will have an idea of the procedure.

:fc: :fc: :fc: I have been trying to stimulate them but, because the tree has great age, it is stubborn. It does not seem to bother, yet heals its trunk in record time

Nice tree Bodhi, no luck with improving the nabari? I had a similar issue with a Celtis so I carved a big hollow feature instead.

I will update this thread as i pulled this tree out to prune it today so a photo was in order. As with all things when you are having a bad day it slipped off the trolley, smashed the new pot and really, really got me p#*@%!d off. Went in and had a cup of tea and thought i would post the positives. (1st positive..i now have a chance to locate a new pot for it, maybe in a glaze. 2nd positive..use this as a learning tool for beginners to educate them that this will not hurt the tree at all and it will quite happily sit there until August when i should have its new pot. (3rd..Wait until my Bonsai apprentice comes home from the States (he is on holiday) so actually, it is his fault :tu: and lets me off the hook. I will post again when it is pruned.

Thanks for continuing to upgrade this post. The tree is coming along quite nicely, some may say in spite of its dramas, and some would say because of them. The age is enhanced by its life story and all those things add character.
I believe if that pot broke, it wasn't the "right" pot for the tree and a better option will show itself in the very near future.
If you wouldn't mind keeping us updated, that would be appreciated.

Hi Bodhi , mate just sized up that trunk and its a treat to get a real perspective of the size .I know how big that white tray is , and its good to hear you found a pot/tray big enough and not too soon . That is a ripper to say the least .

I will eventually get over there one day , been stuck here for way too long and going round in circles .

Cheers Alpine
