fertilisers for plums...

Post by paddles »

ok, lets open a can of worms... who uses what on thier plums? do you use an all purpose? like osmocote/dynamic lifter? a specific fruit tree fert, liquid, slow release? etc... I'm looking at my plums, I feed as a rule, liquid fert (allpurpose) and seasol once a weekish, pot with compost/worm castings, and use osmocote all purpose, I am at the moment having a play with some super phosphate to try to encourage flowering.

I would like to hear what you feed/how, specific to plums.

thank you

Yep, can of worms :tu: I use the same for my plums as i do other trees. I do not think you have to be specific for plums. Better grow complete organic BFA registered is my choice of fertiliser but i feed a lot. Maybe try a flowering specific fert but you will have to find out when. I think in Autumn to help flowering before dormancy for a week or two. I am no expert on this though :reading:

Both dynamic lifter & osmocote but have found I get better growth & flowering with Osmocote slow release, just a general all purpose one. I dont bother with seasol or liquid ferts supplimental to that. If you want to suppliment the P:K do so from mid autumn till leaf drop as thats when new buds are being formed.

Bloom Booster from end of January until leaf drop and the flowers will double each year! Trust me.
