ASH needs some help, leaves disappearing

Post by SeanBarracudA »

I have had this ASH for nearly a year. When it was in a pot, it was really healthy. Then I planted it in the ground and it started not doing so well. Then I moved it to a different location and replanted, and it's still not doing very well. This tree used to produce a lot of foliage, now it just seems stunted and not producing any new leaves.

That is, and correct me if i am wrong, three repots in a year. The tree goes into a little bit of shock with a repot. Now imagine that three times. I would shed my leaves too  Leave it for a few years in the ground, feed it and let it grow, it will thank you next Spring.

Too right Bodhi, a mate has an ash in a styro box, it had grown roots into the paving below, he simply moved the thing less than a meter and it dropped all its leaves middle of growing season! Bounced back and is fine now.

Also Sean, have you planted it in the ground deep enough? Your photo seems to show lots of roots above the soil, you need soil covering the rootball to let it grow, otherwise all the top roots will dry out and your tree will struggle.
