Toughest wood to carve?

Post by Jester »

Hi there crazy kids!!!

I was just wondering, for those of you who carve, what is the toughest wood of any species you have come across? I have actually found Buxus wood to be the hardect I have come across.

Regards

John

Not a silly answer Scott as the hardest wood I find to carve is the old dry wood. But use nice sharp tools and it is all soft :tu:
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

I just did a big carve as a demo on a Hawthorn on Saturday and found it quite easy enough. If you have sharp, good tools it should be OK.
