its been getting cold and it gets a special place in the house as these guys dont like cold winds

Hi Stick,

Removing the branch that crossed the trunk was a good move and I am now sold on the pot that it is in. All in all your tree is coming along nicely. Thanks for sharing it with us.

keep the pot its fine,

if you are finding it hard to cut branches for the reason that it hurts, put some wire on and some nice bends in the branches to reduce the length of them.
this will bring the foliage closer to the the trunk with no hurt.
and like some one else said above me up there, you really need to get the moss off the base of the trunk, moss is only good for show.

thanks brad for the info, sometimes you notice something but think maybe its just me thinking itll look good, but if you look closer you will see the wirre is connected to a stronger branch puling that front branch that was in the way, so i have not done any cutting except for a small dead branch..
there are some dead ares on top that used to be green but are now greyeish, would it be safe to cut and would it promote growth there??

Hi Stick,

My only experience with Cypress are that clipping them out of season discourages new growth; that is the area you cut might die back or dry out and not produce new growth. It is especially critical if you are not fertilizing the tree during winter.

the best thing you should do is wait until spring when you begin to feed the tree again then worry about cutting anything off. As for the ''greying'' of the leaves this might actually be blueing or color change that occurs when leaf growth matures. It is from these leaves that cypress fruit or cones grow. They look like litle berries if I recall. That is all I know, hope it helps
