hi
Has any one had experience with a Robinia, (black locust). I would like dig one of the 4 year suckers out. When is the right time to lift it for bonsai. and has any one done an areal layer with one. They are a beautiful tree when the flowrs are out.
Some have said they are a touchy tree, hard to transplant.
Petra!

Do the root suckers have thorns? if it is grafted, its highly likely.
The leaves are very big compounds. You might experience trouble with reduction. Let us know how it goes!

Thanks Jayc, not sure if it is a graft, there are many suckers all around and yes thorns they have. These trees have shallow roots.

Hey Petra,
Just wondering if you ended up digging one of the suckers & how its going? I am picking up 2 large "lace Lady' cultivars tomorrow & trying to find any info I can on them.
Thanks in advance
Matt
