Matt the last time I saw Ilex serrata was about 10 years ago at Dicksonia Rare Plants in Mount Macedon. Apparently the guy who runs the nursery there is now the host of Gardening Australia.
Cheers,

...Might as well face it, I'm addicted to Shohin...

Mojo, Stephen Ryan. He got sacked from gardening australia, he knows too much about plants haha
Its now hosted by a somewhat hirsute gentleman from sbs
I think there are quite a few ilex serrata around the bonsai community in vic it would just be a matter of tracking them down, I also think you need both sexes before they will fruit, the american one ilex decidua could be a good alternative.
Corylopsis is quite common in gardens around the hills there is a big old one in Pirianda gardens just down the road from me
How about forsythia ?
