What type of juniper is this i have no idea

Hi came home to find these in my back yard my wifes dad collected them for me i have no idea what they are hopefully they survive they have a good root ball so i potted them up an gave them a good drink of seasol.
Looks like they have had a hard time during summer an have died of a bit a while back but now they are shooting all over the place if any one can help me out with a id of these trees that would be great

The die back might be from some sort of bug. Look for burrows in the trunk.

I have some in the garden that look similar and Im sure they are called (nickname) Bookleaf pine, but I cant lay my hands on the plant tag for the correct name as yet, will keep searching.

EDIT: Hubby just reminded me those trees were in the garden when we moved here so I dont have any name tags for them, but something we bought that is similar is called Thuja occidentalis " Smaragd, leaf type is very much the same but the tree has a slimmer profile compared to the ones I referred to as Bookleaf pines.

I thought the flat 'fronded' ones were Chamaecyparis? - also known as bookleaf cypress. There are a number of species from Asia and North America and probably lots of different cultivars of those now in gardens.

Yes I go with Thuja occidentalis Smargold

This is mine I purchased late 2010 with that ticket and kept as a pseudo bonsai in a small pot to restrict its growth.

I have notes that I made listing it further as Arborvitae and possibly 'white cedar'.

Found a bonsai example with the branches more open and it looked good, but it was small and compact.

Looks like father in law has given you a hospital pass they do not look too healthy.

You might consider cutting one right down pre-spring and seeing if it shoots.

Mine is about 40cm high.

I will repot mine (same pot) trim it (it does not mind the foliage being cut back) and open it up a bit.

I would just like to add that I think it is some sort of cypress, most likely thuja. correct me if I'm wrong but are not in the juniper family, cypress and juniper are different types of conifers.
