River Sand Question

Post by cuwire »

Have bought some river sand from Bunnings and have sizes (at longest dimension) of between 2mm and 10mm.

So my question is to you who use river sand in your mix -

Is this variation the best way to go or should some particles be screened out ?
Does any one use a single particle size ?

Thanks David

PS. I could probably have stretched my dimensions at 1mm to 15mm although the bulk is not at the extremes.

Although I do not use river sand, I use a consistent particle size depending on the type of tree. Deciduous I use a smaller size than conifers.

:gday: David  , is there any chance you can take a picture of the product plse,. When i think river sand ,i think Carnarvon River sand, which is actually not really sand. It's a gravel that is mined from the Gascoyne River bed,it comes in different grades- the (super fine) one i have here is 1.6mm to 3.2mm.

Hi Craig

Your sand looks nice and even.

Here is a pic of mine

First packet purchased by me was marked "river sand" - this lot looks the same is marked TARAGO sand - but yes "sand" was a bit of a misnomer for me.

Cheers

it looks ok to me,irregular in shape/not smooth gravel, but it isn't graded so well. If you can get some grading sieves that would quickly solve the issue. Then as Scott says,
