Tree growing along nicely now. Have been waiting for the rain to stop before giving it a prune so the time is here. Been to wet here and it would most likely develop phoma. Some shoots are showing early signs as it is, so a prune and spray with fungicide is on the cards.

Hi Tony,
I have just posted a problem with a large juniper and I'm wondering if the problem is "Phoma". I have not heard of this before...... would you mind giving me a run down on this disease and it's causes, and how to treat the issue. I'm in Byron Bay, and also have had a ton of rain over the past few weeks. Here's the link to my post.

Spent a very nice 4 and a bit hours in the workshop today working on some trees, and thought I'd better get into this one again and get some shape started again.

Haven't got that intricate on the wire for a while. All branches wired down to 1mm on secondary and tertiary branches. Very theraputic but I think I need to get my eyes checked as it got a bit blurry on some of the small branches

I think the first branch on the left may come off and the first one on the right will get longer and come around the wood more to be a major branch. What do you reckon?

Nice work, I agree the righ branch needs to be longer and, but dunno about removing the left one tho

Still undecided on the left branch Ken. It leaves a big space if gone, but it was bugging me, so I tweaked it and lowered it a little, and brought it in a little tighter to the wood and more across it. Also lowered the right one a little and certainly want it longer.

Didn't realise it has been over a year since the last lot of pics for this tree. Set the tree up for some pics over Easter and I am happy how it is coming along. I gave the wood a clean and a fresh lime sulphur application to keep the wood looking good. The bark even got a scrub to bring out the red colour and I applied some nice moss and pebble to the soil surface.

Wow.. that is looking awesome. I've been desperately looking for some good wood to do something like this on. I love what you have done with the carving and I think you have married the Juni to it very well.

When quality work is put into a tree a quality bonsai is created

It is definitely what is required to make quality Bonsai Matt. You put in, you get out, at any level.

Just grab anything to start with and practise Josh. So when you find the right wood you will be practised and get more out of it, because you can put more in to it.
