What does Shohin mean

What does Shohin mean

Hi
As a newbie on the forum I am always see the name Shohin but I don`t know what it means, have tried to look it up in the Bonsai Glossary but it is not mentioned, can anybody explain what it means. :lost: :lost:

It is a size category of bonsai. Japanese term for small bonsai, usually something that can be held in one hand, around 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) high..

Hey Reddoggy, how you going mate?
Shonin bonsai means "a tiny thing". The basic rules demand that it is not higher than 25cm when measured from the rim of the pot to the top of the tree. You should be able to hold it in one hand and it must express the beauty of a larger tree in minature. Hope this helps.

Sorry KC didn`t know it related to the size of the tree otherwise I would have looked it up that way and then there is always google I suppose, one day I will work out how the forum works until then I will probably ask dumb questions. :oops: :oops:

Actually glad you pointed it out as it was obviousley confusing.
I am Combining both the Glossary and Japanese terms into one Wiki page now to fix it :-)
