Grafting branches for dummies?

Hey gang,

I've been looking for information on grafting....All I've found thus far has been a little too complex for me. Can anybody point me in the direction of some good grafting information? Surely there has to be a previous thread on this.

1 question I do have is this: Do all grafts have to remain attached to their donor tree whilst being grafted to the new tree?

My aim is to graft a branch to an established pine which has an unsightly gap between current branches.

Hi Bonsaiarmy , grafting for dummies , sorry can't help as i don't like or use the term DUMMIES in any shape or form in reference to a request to learn anything .But if you search for Grant Bowie's post thread grafting pines , or maybe another member or mod can upload he link its the simple and best info i have seen .Inarch grafting is simple but it is also very ugly .I have done dozens of them as recommended from D.K.s book and i wouldn't recomend it .The inarch swells considerably and makes for a shocking union .

I have tried to improve on Deb's method but the results aren't ready for proof of results to publish .Thread grafting a new young candle to me would be the best option .Taffy's idea of using a straw to draw the candle through is a pearler . This is the method i would use from now on given the host and stock is available . Depending on the grafting method , inarching and thread requires the graft to remain attached to the doner , other grafts the shoot, bud, are removed and grafted onto the parent stock .
