Needle Juniper pot plant / Trainer

Post by alpineart »

I thought i had better do something with this
100_9024.jpg
,It cost me $2 at a market about 3 years ago .Not well kept or watered and spent most of it time filed on the ground
100_9023.jpg
after being blown of the rack continually . I must have purchased it for the bend in the trunk , because that's all its got going for it . After a quick look and 3 simple cuts later

Its on its way

I cranked some heavy electrical wire on the lower branches and trunk and maintained the same movement to the apex

, then whipped the smaller branches into line with some stripped copper wire .

A slip pot into a recycled meat tray / trainer tray and its all over red rover for this trainer
100_9030.jpg
. Not too bad for a 1 hour task , a lot quicker if your fit and mobile .There is a little bit of reverse taper in the base but because i didn't trim the roots it should grow out .

Nice work Alpine, and i see the trees are getting smaller. Unfortunately Craig, all those trees have to be watered EVERY DAY

Hi Craig ,i lost about 300 maples due to the early Spring and more frosts on top of the new growth freeze dried them . Now i sold 100's of whip and trainers but now i have got another 200 plus mini crab apples and Hornbeams to plant out Think i might have around 1999 left but it keeps growing ,you layer here , another find there , thats how i loose these plants for a season or two , cant see the plants for the leaves .Mother nature probably done me a favour with the frosts then she gave me a challenge with more seedlings .It a vicious circle ,on top of that i need to plant out the Yamadori pines and the 50 odd natives i have left before they too die due to lack of water .Way too hard to look after in pots with a few injuries and its going to be a long recovery and a hot summer

Cheers Alpine
