Melaleuca Preissiana - Clump Style

Post by Patmet »

This Mel was from the nursery section at bunnings. I bought it in 2022. It was already growing as a clump on it's own, which is what interested me.

I repotted it into my mix and worked the roots when I got it. I let grow out and cut back a couple of times to start taper, and get some movement going.

Recently I repotted again into a large pot to really start getting some growth and thickening happening. I'll cut back hard again later.

Nice!
I have a couple of mels that I grew from seed and am trying to develop into clumps, it's a great style to showcase them in a relatively natural way IMO. This is going to be a good one I think.

Eager to follow this thread, preissiana has to be my favourite melaleuca species. I managed to get a clump style myself from Zanthorrea nursery and it survived the first repotting.

I’m curious, I read elsewhere on the forums that preissiana are one of the harder, more sensitive mels to bonsai but, it didn’t say why. Curious if you have any knowledge or tips when dealing with this species?

Looking forward to updates!
Mickey
