Hello,

This tree is growing on the nature strip in my local area. Does anyone know what it is? It has the seed pods and bark like the melaleuca, but the needle scales like the casuarina.

There is afew melaleucas with tiny leaves that could be mistaken for Casuarina scales. Some are small shrubs but Melaleuca minutifolia grows to a small tree. Not sure of any other tree sized tiny leaf Melaleucas though. Flowers will give a further clue any idea what color?

Hi ya Albert, I think shibui, has it in one.
There is a sub species but there is a difference in the leaves, that make your one more likely to be the subsp minutifolia, than subsp monantha.

Both have papery bark, both are desscribed as small trees or shrub to 6 meters.
The greyish leaves arranged in 2 pairs of opposite rows are stem clasping seem more likly to be the type, than the subsp monantha. Which has slightly differing leaves.

Thanks for the feedback. Have never seen the blooms, but will keep an eye out in future when I drive past.

It seems like a good specimen for bonsai, so knowing what the tree is will help the horticultural side.
