Found this little guy yesterday while hunting for Ficus virens to collect, didnt have my camera with me at the time so headed back today to snap a pic. Looks like a tiny little sumo Ficus, only 10cm tall max and growing in a crack in some rocks. Impossible to remove so here it stays.

That's what a hammer and chisel are for. Make sure the chisel is sharp, cut it off level with the rock and coat the base with some hormone powder. Then just pop it into a free draining mix and wait. I have collected many figs from trees and walls using this method. I once hung over a wall to lop one off growing under a rainwater head on an old brick in Spring Hill

i'm thinking about getting a chisel small enough to fit in the crack to get as much out as possible. I have another small shohin fig that i cut out of a tree fork, didnt get any roots so popped it into a pot if pure sand, that was a month or so back and still looks good, i have heard seedlings are paticulary easy to root when sliced at the base

Don't worry about the small chisel Hornet. Like Bougy said just take it off level with the rock and treat as a cutting. Works a lot thicker than that one.
Sweet little tree.

I find figs to be very resilient and do well whilst being mistreated
Just do it, as it will be a very natural shohin
Set in a little round pot would look marvelously cute lol
Best of luck with it matey.

I think i might do that, i can already see it in my head after a few years and a little training, could turn out quite nice. Now just to find a tiny tiny pot.

Hi John,
Make sure you study the tree's surrounding properly and dig her out with as many roots as you can
Chisel, hammer, break, crumble the trees surrounds as much as you possibly can mate
Best of luck buddy, let us know how it all goes..
Can't wait for the potted natural shohin in a tiny pot
Cheers,
Han.
