Hi, just wondering if anyone has made or seen a gravity drip watering device? I have a couple of corkscrew willows, and have been told they need LOTS of water. I work full-time so thought if I can use a gravity fed drip system I would solve the problem. I've had a look around and have come up empty handed.

Any tips, links or a "HOW TO" would be much appreciated

Rather than that I would get a bucket of water next to/under it. Wet a towel, stick one end in the bucket and lay the rest over the pot. The water will be sucked up into the pot as required. Look here for ideas http://www.instructables.com/id/Self-Wa ... liter-bot/

If you wanted to be fussy? or creative, I"ve had setups before, with a bucket, a 4mm irrigation line, and a varible dripper on the end, hubby attached the 4 mm line to bucket, same as you'd attach to a thicker line (punch hole and use joiner,) then we stuck the dripper on end of line, took appox 4 hrs for the bucket to drain.

Thanks for the replies, I'm thinking more along the lines of what Paddles mentioned, but with a bigger container. I have just found this picture and think I might try this. viewtopic.php?f=102&t=1298&p=12470&hilit=gravity#p12470 (its on page 2 posted by "bretts" The only problem is mounting the container high enough with access to be able to refill it regularly.

My updated version was a PVC pipe with a screw cap at the base. I then cable tied this to a tree with the willow under it. Screwed a 4mm male in the cap then hose down to weeping hose. I found the weeping hose always clogged up under the power of gravity and I almost lost my willow last year when I swapped to a tub of water that went stagnant. I would now do away with the weeping hose and use a few variable drippers or similar as Paddles suggests.
It does not have to be so much water. I find it no hassle to fill up twice during the day just as I water other trees as well.

I find with a bucket, it is sufficent water for one day, but not so much that I can get complacent about checking it.
