Hey everyone Just a quick question about fertilisation.

If I put some slow release fertilisers on my plants which are supposed to last for 3 months, should I / Is it safe to apply liquid fertilisers during that time time?

In fact Grants soil mix test thread here recommends both ferts work best

At the moment i am using several

this season when repotting I have been adding a 1/2 handful of Osmocote in each pot as grant achieved better results that just liquid

for the last year, i have been adding on the Surface of each pot, 1/2 a handful of Neutrog "Sudden Impact" pelletised organic fert but found it stays quite hard for a long time. When this bucket runs out I will go back to Dynamic lifter "Rose Blend" as that only lasts for about 6 weeks. After then I will reapply

Every fortnight I use Liquid ferts, "Charlie Carp" and then "Miracle grow" alternating each time
Newly potted trees get Seasol weekly for at least a month, then Liquid ferts

I do not differentiate between trees and have different fert Regimes for each except to give less Chook poo based ferts to my Azaleas.

HI Mick,

I add Osmocote slow release and fertilser cakes to the soil surface, as well as liquid fertiliser every week (alternating between charlie carp, miracle gro, seasol).

It should be noted that both Ken and I use a purely inorganic 'soil mix', so over-fertilising is probably not an issue.

I believe Ken uses Zeolite and Diatomite, I use Akadama and Pumice.

Right now I have an organic mix and haven't really played around with it to much yet. I am watching carefully for signs of over fertilisation but haven't noticed anything yet. I assume that if I watch close enough I should be able to save anything before to much damage is done?

Slow release does not last for three months. I put a slow release on my trees every three or four weeks. If you are leaving it for three months, over Spring/Summer your trees are grossly underfed. I am also organising myself to liquid feed whilst top feeding my trees

3 Months is just what it said on the box but I have been applying it more frequently than that along with "Nitrosol" as a liquid fertiliser.

Do you keep applying the slow release over winter? perhaps just a low nitrogen one?
