Big Black tree

I have uploaded a few pictures of a tree that is on a nature strip which I beleive could be a Black Pine.

What do the pine experts think.

Hi Squizzy , could you get a pick close up of the bark and cones , Needles and candles don't give a true indication on pines , you need bark , needles , shoots , candles and cones to positively I.D them .Cheers Alpineart

can't be 100% cause the picture that you provided is insufficient.

it does look like Japanese black pine.

if can u take picture of the foliage close up, buds/candle, the cone (with rough measurement), bark.

then i would say it is easier to identify the pine

the pine is nowhere near my house so i probably wont be heading back that way soon too take photos.

i beleive it might be a black pine of some kind as i have followed closely on other pine id topics on this site. it was ultimatly a post for all the seed hungry people on here as it was loaded with spent cones. I personally dont need anymore as I found another supply earlier this year which has resulted in my having about 40 seedlings allready.

For anybody interested the tree is on epping road around about number 70( house number) in the north ryde area in Sydney. maybe some other locals from this site might check it out and give some feedback. For your benifit you cannot park on this section of epping road so you may have to do some walking.

Hi Squizzy , how big were the spent cones , 50mm or 80-mm long ?, was the bark long large plates silver /white with a black outline in the furrow . Cheers Alpineart

The cones wher about 50mm long and probably 40 to 50mm round, and yes I have just looked at the bark which does seem to be very silver with a black outline.

Hi Squizzy , i would hav to say its a Pinus Nigra - Nigra , these tree's have a smaller cone usually 50mm long and open they are around 50mm diameter spent , whilst the other Pinus Nigra's -Austriaca and Maratima have a 80mm cone and 50mm round spent ..The needle fits the sub species Nigra if they are very stiff and sharp , and while its classed as a dwarf in nurseries its actually a small to medium tree of around 20m high 30-40 year old specimens and the other grow to 40-50m high .The bark is typical of all the Nigra's , silver/white long larger plates.

I have pics here but for some reason the program is telling me they are now too large to upload ... I will reset the camera and post some pics of the Nigra's in a topic for I.D .
