Air layering question

I live in Vic and Its the start of spring and I just air layered off a silver birch, a pine and a cypress. I cut the bark off a small section and put a small plastic pot on the exposed section and filled it with potting mix. I was just wondering how long i would have to leave it attached to the tree befor I saw it off below the pot.

How do I know when the roots are developed enough to cut it away?

Hi Mr miagi,
when you say U cut off a small section ,did U mean U ringbarked it. Also its normally left on 4 six weeks or more and when the roots look strong and R plentiful then U can chop it off. Maybe show a picy when time comes & someone will be able to tell you its ready to come off or not. Hope this helps!

Check if there are sufficient roots on the layer prior to cutting off by digging in the pot gently and looking for roots.
