Help with ash!!

I was out digging up olives today and found a whole heap of ash. When is best to dig them up?? Any tips digging them up??

Assuming you are talking about Fraxinus - desert/claret/ etc ash.
Best dug while dormant and should be quite hardy. Might even survive digging after buds open with proper aftercare cos they're pretty hardy but have never tried it. Trouble will be finding some with taper or the possiblility of creating taper as most seedlings are strong upright growers.

I have dug up ash seedlings in the early summer with no setbacks at all. They form a very strong tap root which you will need to cut off back to the litre circle of fibrous roots which is usually present just below soil level, and if they are starting to leaf up cut the top back hard as well. Keep them in the shade.
