English Elms

I've just dug a few elms, some came out a bit rough. I'd like to soak them in Seasol, but I know their roots can rot quite easily.
Should I:
-Soak in Seasol for a week, then into free-draining grit?
-Soak in Seasol, but not long, then into grit?
-Pot into the grit straight away, then water with SS every week or so?
Any advice appreciated.
One is quite graceful, and is now called "Elm MacPherson".

Mostly suckers coming out from thick root sections, very few feeder roots. Mostly up to 3cms thick, although ElmM is thicker, but has feeders.

I would first wash roots with good water pressure, make all cuts clean with a saw or pruners and
then heal them for a month or so in sand or pot /plant in sandy mix and water in with ss
They should be fine,Good luck.

I soak in SS for only a day or 2 on all my collected trees.
Then Pot up into mix and seasol water every few days.

Elms strike easilly as cuttings so if all your cuts are clean and you have some even just a few feeder roots they should be OK.

Hi Gavin, I am going to collect 2 small (will be shohin size) EE's this week (my first ever), and I would love to see a pic or two of the ones you collected.
I have soaked some collected trees for up to 2 weeks before with no issues, obviously they weren't Eng Elms though, so not applicable.
I would expect that they could go a few days in seasol before being potted up regardless of their roots being prone to rot (didn't know that about procera roots).
Maybe pm Bodhidharma if concerned...I know he has a lot of experience with this species.
Cheers, Dario.
