Found these weird looking gum nuts on a tree in St Leonards Sydney. The tree had red fibrous bark and these weird nuts. They have seven holes, six around the edge one at the bottom. When I left them on the dashboard of my car, heaps of seeds came out. I'm going to grow them. If anybody could id the tree would it be ok to bonsai?

Hi Pedro,

That's a turpentine tree. Syncarpia glomulifera.

Never seen one as a bonsai, and i dont know how well their leaves reduce, but good luck all the same. They should be easy to germinate from seed.

Thanks very much of the information, however my old Scout Master will be very distrest, as i am sure that he tought us how to reconize a turpentine but somthing in my memory kept saying they had a serrated edge to there leaves. Just getting old and senile i gess.So thanks again I will try to grow them and see how they go.
