what soil mix should i use? HELP!

hi everyone, im interested in making my potting mix better, rather than just mixing sand into ordinary quality potting mix, i want to make a mix for maples, black pines and junipers. and where can i get these? any help will be great thanks, simon

I'd take the results and relate those back to the specific species, then experiment away.

Edit- I misread the title missing the "help!" on the end, I'm guessing now you wanted more specific answers. Perhaps others will chime in with their mixes, mine just get what medium is at hand.

After reading heaps on this subject I have decided to use a 50/50 mix of Diatomite and Premium potting mix. Mainly because freight on Diatomite and Zeolite is very expensive to here. $20.00 for a 12.5kg bag of Diatomite.

Enfield Produce is were I got mine 02 80034121 5kg or 12.5kg bags

If you go into Wiki and type Diatomite into search section it will give you the information you are looking for. Wiki is great for searching for information on Bonsai stuff

Diatomite is mined in Northern NSW and SE QLD so should be able to be sourced from the mines

Send them an email and check
Zeolite I have no idea out of Sydney

Hi Ken, sorry I was refering to the Ausbonsai Wiki when I posted before. I have used it heaps since it was introduced and will continue to do so. Great tool for learning.

hmm they didnt reply back to my email, is there anywhere near the gold coast that sells diatomite?
