Has anyone had experience of importing Japanese tools into Australia that included grafting knives and the like? Did you have any trouble with customs? I am considering importing some, so would like to hear your experiences with customs and bonsai tools.

Thanks in advance

James

im guessing your more concerned with importing knives into the country, well you shouldnt have any problems importing a grafting knife as ive imported knives before with no problems as long as the knife isnt considered illegal which a grafting knife to the best of my knowledge isnt. my advice is to avoid double edged blades as they tend to be conviscated. the tools ive imported i havent had any problems with but they were from america not japan

Oh ok, yeh I checked on the customs regulations web site and they do seem to have issues with double edged blades. I plan to import a grafting knife and some wire cutters. Would it make any difference whether it came from japan? Its metal and not organic matter after all.

It seems you were right. I emailed the relevant customs department (firearms and weapons) with photos of what I planned to import this morning, and by this afternoon they had replied telling me that it would be no problem at all! First positive encounter with customs I have had yet!
