It's a big day tomorrow as I'm going to attempt to close the gap in the deadwood. I'm going to try and bend the left side in to the right, creating better movement and taper. If you don't hear from me tomorrow, you know it has all gone disasterously wrong..

Beautiful work Will. I hope your latest procedure was a success. Its a bit too warm for Taxus in most parts of Australia.

Hello Alpineart. The Yew hasn't been styled yet. I intend on doing it in the Spring of next year but I will take a picture ofthe whole tree tomorrow morning.

See stuff like this gives me ideas on how to approach a few of my own trees that need reducing

Hello Ken and thankyou. Apart from lots of practice, it also pays to build up an album of deadwood photos for reference purposes. Nothing like copying mother nature. Just about to start the makita up again.

Will, Yew are doing great work with this Taxus. The detail is quite remarkable and I can't wait till you style the tree fully. Tell us a little of of your background in the world of miniature and what it means to you.

Ash. I was introduced to bonsai back in 1997 via a petrol station counter, where they were selling Serrisa's for £9.99. I managed to keep it alive for about 3 months but in the mean time bought some books including Colin Lewis's book on bonsai. This book covered collecting material such as English Elm and this is where my bonsai path really began. In 2001, I was entered by my local club in the heats of the UK New talent competition. I won the heat and then the final in 2002 and went on to represent the UK in France for the European final.
Another of my greatest influences is Kevin Willson who just happens to live about 20 minutes down the road. His carving and initial styling work is a huge inspiration to me.
Some of my trees have been exhibited at major European and national shows. I have also taught bonsai techniques for nearly 10 years now and I also run workshops in Denmark on a yearly basis.
Bonsai is something I think about when I wake up and go to sleep. It is more than a passion to me and I find it a great release from the very stressful work I do. I get a huge satifaction from teaching others and hope one day to be an inspiration to others.
