These are a couple of N.Z Tea Tree layers that were set some time back
I removed them and potted up into bonsai pots to enable a nice flat root mass to be produced . With a quick trim and wire they have became good trainers . Allowed to grow on and i see how they go .Not much info on this species so its hit and miss .What i have read is they dont like root disturbance , these were tortured before i found the info . The root mass was complete in the layering pots so they layer easily .I have intentions of setting another dozen layers on the same tree .The layer material was 70 % red scoria and 25 % spagnum moss .I have used the same medium to layer Japanese Maples and Pines now trialing it on Spruce as well as Crepe Myrtle .
