Root Pruning a Privet

Hi there crazy kids.!!!!

I have a privet which I recently acquired but believe it or not, I have never owned a privet before. In Sydney it is Autumn but being such a feral little critter as we all know, I'm wondering if it would be too risky to cut approx 60% of the rootball off now and re-pot???

How safe am I guys?

Thanks

John

Hi,
I am in love with Privets they make the best bonsai. I have three.
I would recommend you root prune three times a year as the roots grow at a very rapid rate.
The best thing is that it is very hard to kill a privet, the worst is that you need to prune them at least every six weeks.

Michael

Hi John,
I root prune first week of spring and first week of autumn, they are ferocious growers below top of pot,I find health starts to wane when root bound.
