I have never understood much about accent plants, what is appropriate etc.
Today I spent $10 at the nursery, collected a few plants and moss from my own garden and had a go. Any comments on plant selection, pot selection or identification most welcome.

Love them Gerard, though ID I am afraid I cant, but accent plant is to create the feeling of a scene with the tree as the central part of the display, and the accent saying whether it is in a paddock on the mountain or near a lake or stream.

Trying to make sure the plant used grows in the same area. As a point a Queensland rock orchid although beautiful will not go with a pine that grows in the Mountains.

But with a Swamp cypress you could use a tillandsia ( Bromeliad ) as they grow naturally with the swampy.

I hope that helps you understand more of the use of Accents, which by the way can be Suiseki as well, if you use figurines please, not the gaudy ones, and never in a Bonsai. Ok in Penjing

Ps weeds grow all over the world, so placing one that has been cultivated in a pot as an accent is acceptable, if it is a flowering plant and is in flower only one flower is allowed above the principle Bonsai stand. This also tells us what season we are trying to portray, ie summer- autumn.

I like the second one , It would go well with a Pine as it looks as if a highland heath type thing

The 3rd is cool and a lovely pot too
