Hi guys/girls, I was speaking to a neighbour the other day, who only recently found out i was into bonsai. He told me that the lady across the road from him had a few of her late husbands bonsai trees that were just wasting away in her back yard. He told me most of them had died, been given away or had been thrown out over the years but a few had survived the onslaught.... The next day i went and introduced myself ( because im just so friendly ) and told her i had heard about the trees and of my new hobby...I then asked if she liked, i could try and revive what remaining bonsai she had left. To my delight she said i could take them to keep as she didnt have any use for them and was going to thow them out anyway

Unfortunately she said that ALOT had already been throw out including some old pines when i got into her back yard all that i found left standing were four figs... but hey, beggars cant be choosers!

So, do you guys seen any potential within these trees? And do you know what type of figs they are?

Since i got them home i gave them all a 24hr seasol bath.. they were soooo dry and root bound, then repotted them into a mix of Richgro Aquatic (diatomite/sponglite) im led to believe, pine bark mulch & coco peat - 60/20/20 + osmocote, Then a light prune to remove some dead branches. One of the figs (Fig #3) had a rotten root section that i removed and then applyed steri-prune, it will require some carving later down the track if it survives

Any tips/advice would be much appreciated.

you are so right beggers cant be choosers they all look quite good a bit stringy what i would suggest is wait for warmer weather before you do anything to them
and if you do wait just when warmer cut branches back and allow for more back budding to progress the tree into a fuller green foliage but other wise good score

Nice Score and great pity they others were not so lucky

As it is getting cooler now, I would be letting them recover until spring arrives. Then you can Cut them back hard to bring the foliage back to the trunks

thanks okie will do, ill just keep them well fed till spring and then go from there..

yes me to, i think the trunk on #3 will come up really nice with a bit of carving in the future
