hey guys my girlfriends brother has a little bonsai its a evergreen but we are not sure what species it is.

it had snowy white green foliage but now it is all brown as you can see in the pictures how do we fix this.

he has kept it well hydrated, we have no idea why it is dying or is just doing this because of autumn.

is there a way of saving this tree.

thanks again guys.

Mate, you say it is an evergreen?
It's a gonner!
Maybe to much water.

Looks like a Chamaecyparis Psifera 'Boulevard' to me. Quite a common garden plant and you can probably find it in many nurseries. From the photos it looks very dry. I had one that I lost a while back and unofrtunately once it had got to this stage, there was no turning back...it was gone. There is always a chance that there is still some life in it so I would hold back on the water (overwatering is a possibility for its present condition) and let it dry a bit between waterings. Get it somewhere out of direct sun but with good airflow around it and cross my fingers.

Good luck

They do not live inside in aircondititioning. It is dead when the foliage has been allowed to dry out that much, the tree has been dead for around six weeks.

Sorry.

Sorry DL

I concur that once brown a conifer will not come back. Maybe too 'hydrated' and if the photo is where it lived it is not a surprise. Conifers need outdoors with good sun levels and to be watered well but let get dry between. The fact that no foliage seems to have fallen off would favour too much water.

i know that he kept it well hydrated but i also know that he didn't take it out side, he left it in a conservatory for i would say since he got it. and the house is constantly air conditioned. lol never getting him a bonsai again.

Agreed, to much water and not enough natural enviroment. I nearly did the same to mine many years ago but caught it early and saved it. If there is any green inside re new shoots it can be saved. But i doubt it with this one.

I think it's quite common for this type of conifer to die for no reason---looks healthy and cruising then ups and dies --do him a favour and replace it with a juniper
