Picture 3 doesn't do the maple justice - artificial light and such. Its actually a delicate mauve, and a wonderful tree.
The maple trunk in picture 6 is delightfully sinuous - pictures don't tell you as much as a visit will.

Really sorry I missed this one, but a fishing trip to Narooma called...
I really like the format of the display, and the maples had some nice colour this year too...
I like the blacky-green pot of Pat's too!

I have an issue with the first picture!. The tree is not planted correctly, it looks like it is falling out of the pot. I thought that it had been placed on the stand wrong.
On closer inspection found it was not.
Another thing that is disappointing is the lack of stands and the use of the wrong size stands. This a shame as it does make the show very mediocre.
As there are trees that deserve better. Which would the be a much better show
Stands can be interchanged, to make it a better show. The club could buy some plain cork or bamboo, place mats so the trees can then be placed on them, so the tree is separated from the table cloth covering.
The issue of the absolute correct stand, is not the what I am aiming at. I have quite a few stands to choose from when showing.
For some trees the perfect stand is there, for some not. However i do have always the right size. So the tree fits, and it does present the tree at its best possible viewing angle.
The two Maples would have been better placed on the others stand, as one is obviously to small and the other too big.
Just my

Pup. ( like all people, we have two things in common one is an opinion, and the other points to the ground and a lot of people spend a lot of time sitting on it )

We are always glad of your observations, Pup, but I am puzzled by the following:
Another thing that is disappointing is the lack of stands and the use of the wrong size stands. This a shame as it does make the show very mediocre.
As there are trees that deserve better. Which would the be a much better show
Stands can be interchanged, to make it a better show. The club could buy some plain cork or bamboo, place mats so the trees can then be placed on them, so the tree is separated from the table cloth covering.
All trees have stands, as far as I can see. Could you perhaps specify where that is not the case? I grant you that the stands are not always the right size and type for the bonsai that are displayed on them, which is something that almost all club shows suffer from. But as for our show being "very mediocre" (Huh??) as a consequence, that is surely a bit harsh!? Luckily it was not the opinion of the many visitors to the show, which included quite a number of veteran bonsai-ists.
By the way, congratulations to you for always having the right stands

to show off your beautiful trees. I am sure they will be most appreciated by all the visitors to the AABC show that is coming up very soon.

Greetngs,
I agree with Pup, stands are critical.
The stand can be likened to the frame around a picture.
One solution is for one member to be nominated as "show captain".
The captain has the final say on the display. They must be able to use the stands provided to show every tree at it's best.
Those who complain that their "special tree" was moved from their inappropriate "special stand" are nominated as show captain for next years show.
Setting up a show is not easy.
Happy bonsai,
Bruce

Bruce: a very useful reminder to the clubs with little experience.
BTW, when do we get to see a pictorial report of the Bimer show?
