Soil: Potting mix + propagating sand

Hi all,

I purchased a bag of propagating sand as well as a bag of potting mix.

The propagating sand also has crushed pebbles in it.

My question is has any one used propagating sand as a component to make a bonsai mix before?

I transplanted some chinese elm seedlings into larger pots and used a mix of say 1 part sand:2-3 parts potting mix to back fill. I'll wait and see what happens.

George, I always add atleast 1/3 sand, it all depends on what you are planting.

The most important thing you could do here is to sieve both components.

I just bumped a previous thread of mine showing many types of grit for mixing with bonsai mixes.

Here it is.
