hi all on the way to picking up my new car aka beast we had some time to kill
so dropped into a nursery and couldnt help but buy a large golden mugo..
any way is it too late in the season for a bit of work (branch removal, wiring,
and tip pruning)?

You should be able to remove branches and wire at any time of the year. wire might need to be on a bit longer until theres enough new wood to hold the wired branches in position.
Not certain about pinching tips on a golden mugo. I pinch tips on black pine and standard mugo any time they need it - budding is still good no matter when. The way I understand it late spring/ summer pinching results in smaller regrowth. Buds from pinching now will probably open in spring as large candles but can be pinched again next spring/ summer.

Have fun with the tree. It should be quite unusual.

Have you decided on styles for the black pines you got up here?

all would you use the same technique on a corky bark scotts pine

I would if I had one
Traditionally Japanese use the same techniques on all 2 needle pines (black, red) but a slightly different program on 5 needle pines (white pine) but I'm not sure what differences. In my experience all pines respond in similar ways but the different techniques probably produce subtly different results - probably only needed on very advanced trees.

Thanks shibui gave the amber gold mugo a fair old trim didn’t wire as i didn’t want to do too much work,
I did tip prune so I’ll see how it goes the buds hopefully well. I’ll try post pics soon.
The jbp are doing well the two lager ones i cut back for Informal’s and shoot back very well,
The smaller one well that’s going to be a bit of a head ache i might ground grow them with
