This was the wild apple tree i set a layer last august i think. I kinda forgot about it and it has only been watered a few times initially . I was eating some of the apples of the tree this morning as there damn good and noticed my layer, what more i noticed some roots out of the pot so off i went to get the chainsaw stupid me didnt even think about pics untill it was seperated and potted up. The pot was 3/4 full of nice roots and fairly even, about a 1/4 side didnt root which ill retify later if the tree survives. The pot it is in is 12 inches and the base does taper about doulble that of the top so its quite large . ill see if it suvives etc first and next season ill do some branch selecting. i was going for a straight trunk with the branches sticking upwards obviousally heavier at the bottom etc. this branch was covered in fruit. ill set in aside under shade cloth and see what happens, goes to show this is the year for trees etc.

Hi Noah78 , glad to see it worked .With all our rain , again you were blessed or it may very well have failed .Its good to get some very advanced trainers by layering for sure .What size is the branch/trunk that was layered my guess when a chainsaw is required it must be reasonably large .Cheers Alpine

the pot is 12 inches and the base of the tree just below the barbranching( which helped thickened it) is about 8 inches. I did the layer just below that point to take avantage of the bulge. If the tree survives ill see what if anything can be made of it i invision final height close to 900mm. I hope something will as i love apple blossom , the fruit and the bark which is covered in lichen. 3 good reasons why i did the layer in the first place.

You've got me inspired. My apple tree also has lichen all over it. Did you use root gel on that layer
