invasion of beetles

Hi guys,
Whilst watering this morning i notice all these, what i first thought was lady beetles. They were on the potatoe vine, cedar trees and hibiscus.
They are eating the leaves also. I read about leaf eating beetles, they are in the Coccinellidae family,their orange with 26-28 black spots
that do attack certain plants.
Could these be the same. 
Has any one else seen this invasion before or experienced it.
