Peter Adams Australian Tour 2011
Bonsai The Imagination Tree has been fortunate enough to secure a visit by talented and world renowned international bonsai artist, Peter Adams, as part of his Australian tour (This could possibly be his last working visit to Australia) in 2011.
While it is often necessary to make extensive (and expensive) travel arrangements for Bonsai minded people to participate in international and national workshops hosted in other parts of the world and in other states, we are very fortunate to be hosting Peter Adams (and his extremely bonsai talented wife, Kate) for the first week of August.
We will be hosting two full day workshops - one on Saturday 6 August and the other on Sunday 7 August .Numbers for all workshops are limited to just 8 participants. The workshops have scope to allow for observers (at a cost of $15 each per day). Coffee and tea will be provided.
We will be hosting a Wednesday evening presentation by Peter Adams on 10 August at a cost of $15 per person.
Peter conducts two workshop programs:
Intensive Course (Planned for Saturday 6 August 2011)
Limited to eight students per day, work should be limited to two trees per day per student. This ensures that everyone gets equal attention.
Each student receives a black and white drawing of the future design of the tree and detailed help with the specific horticultural steps needed to make quick progress with the individual tree. Emphasis is placed on artistic design and how this dictates the shaping process. The steps taken are always in terms of what is acceptable to the tree, but always with the eye on the future image. Cost is $175 per participant …
Full Design Program … Including Graphics Package (Planned for Sunday 7 August 2011)
The design programs are limited to eight students per day. They comprise a day of tuition, plus a graphics package including a personalized original color drawing of the future image of the tree - signed and stamped by Peter. These drawings are of framing quality and are widely collected.
Drawings are generated from photographs taken at the time, or supplied by the student. Also included is ‘how-to’ text with black & white line drawings as well as a complete horticultural profile. This is comparable to a complete workshop on paper. The graphics package is mailed later. Cost is $210 per participant…
We offer a lay by service for the Peter Adams Workshops. Normally there is a stronger preference for the Full Design Program. If this is the case we will run the Full Design Program on both days.

Gday Chris!
I'd very definitely be interested, as Peter D Adams is possibly my favourite western Bonsai artist! Like Ricardo, I am really unsure what type of material is acceptable and/or preferable for Peter's workshops. I wonder how he might feel critiquing some Oz native species...
Thanks.
FlyBri.

I am only new to Bonsai but I have read many books and articles by Peter and would be keen to attend one of the workshops. Does anyone have any examples of what a suitable tree to take would be?

Re: Peter Adams Australian Tour 2011
Hi all,
There is a lot of interest in the workshops with Peter Adams as expected. There are 4 places available in both workshops. If you would like to attend please send me a private message. If there are enough people I will contact Peter to see if we go do a third one. I will keep you informed.
Regards,
Chris

Re: Peter Adams Australian Tour 2011
i was planning to take something like this to Peter. i think the semi cascade option is the go, i originally had it at informal upright but didnt like it at all hence the chop, i love the semi cascade style you see in japan for some of the japanesemaples with a heavy trunk in a small round deep lotus pot or simular , the base is reasonable at 150mm and quite a good nebari, it got awesome colour last autumn better than most my other japanese maples so its a plus, hopefully peter would enjoy it. i also have a very old african olive i think needs a big makeover.

Re: Peter Adams Australian Tour 2011
Hi Noah, that Japanese Maple would be a great tree to take to Peter Adams.
I have not had a reply from Chris about the workshops, despite having replied to his original post straight away and having sent a PM as requested a few days later. Has anybody else that registered their interest received a reply?
Cheers,
Mojo
