potted some Maple seedlings recently and with the humid weather we had here last week I noticed some white powdery mould on some of the seedlings. It has withered the areas affected. I sprayed them with some milk but is this the right approach?

Make sure the environment for them is right. Plenty of ventilation etc to prevent humidity build up and then mildew at this time of year.

With Trident maple seedlings they need shade at first to get them to elongate but then they need full sun to get them to power on.

Use spray if you have to if new leaves keep getting infected.

Thanks Grant,

They are Acer palmatum but similar may apply. I hope they make it through, if the milk does not do the trick I will use a systemic on them but I would prefer not to as it may kill off any beneficial Fungi. They do have good ventilation and shade from 1pm on.

How long have they been potted up and do they seem OK otherwise?

If so they might just do better with more sun.

I dug them from a garden in late spring and potted them around 6 weeks ago, they are just starting to bolt now. I kept them in the shade because they are all in terracotta ( I had a shirt load of 180mm squats gathering snails so I made good use of them) and the roots were trimmed a little. I did not want them to dry out while I was at work. Perhaps I can move them out in the next week or so as they have been fed with pellets and the roots should have kicked off by now.
