Mate, go find a tree with cones developing on it, you'll have trouble finding seeds.

I know that I should have bought some trees 5 years ago stuck them in the ground and fertilized like mad to get my own because im still looking...

Ray has some but do they produce good seed??? Who knows?

JWP seed is always hard to find. JBP is relatively easy. Search your local parks and gardens. Phone the horticulturist at your local council. Good Luck.

Hi moopoo,

I do not mean dampen your enthusiasm for seedling Japanese white pines. But please take look at mine one:

Image

I got it as a seedling on 28th/June/2008. It is nearly two years old now -- this picture was taken today 15th/Jan/2011! When I bought this grafted Japanese white pine There were three seedlings in the plastic pot, they looked like JWP. The lady owner smiled and said if I am lucky! Two already died. I think this one is sure to live. But at the rate that it grows... I have no hope of ever shaping it :(

As for JBP, I have written to several nurseries around the country. None have anything available. I even called up CSIRO (not sure why,) they knew exactly what I am after, but they do not have any supply either.

If only we could import :)

Cheers.

If you keep it dry and sweet (dolomite) it could go better. This pot does not appear to have micorriza. That would assist. I have a batch of 4 yo JWP seedlings that are going fine. Occasionally one drops off. alas

and there's a bonsai specific one here

If the mix already has micorrizea there may be a white powdery appearance at the base of the pot
