here are a group of juniper squamatas recently given to me . The previous owner was getting out of bonsai .The group is fairly large and heavy proberly due to the 2 rocks. It defiantly needs alot of work and after going over the group i was originally going to seperate as individual bonsai but have decided against this as all trees havent got enough merit on there own i think . there is some nice movement in some . one of the cascading branches will have to go i think.the current front may change yet? if i get time in the next day or so ill get stuck into it. A few small pines i got recently too.

It has potential Noah. Probably have to lose the cascading branches and the rocks though. Move the group closer together and maybe a smaller pot? Cant complain about the price though. Not the first time that i have heard of someone getting out of Bonsai.

Just to be contrary, why not make the two outside trees into cascades, (lose the tops) and keep the back tree with the rocks, in a smaller pot? Just a thought. There seems to be a bit of age in the trunks.

And a happy new year to all.

Gavin

Between the rain here today i got stuck into this group. I took alot off each tree and after alot of thought will seperate the 2 right trees as individual as there trunk movment is fantanstic. the third tree the one on the left im unhappy with and will pot into a plastic pot for now. the other 2 turned out to be literati. Pics tomorrow when i repot but was just excited about how the 2 trees turned out. i might create a shari on them in future but after the repot i believe ive had done enough for now . Not sure how repotting this late in the season for junipers but as long as the aftercare is ok they should be fine :fc:

Hey Noah,

Look forward to seeing the pics. As far as repotting junipers at this time, should be ok as long as your aftercare is up there and you didnt completely destroy the roots.

I did one of my mentors junipers on monday, I asked if he felt it wasnt too late... he told me that Junpiers dont really care as long as you give them good after care. If you want to really reduce the roots he recommended doing them in march/april (that is for newcastle climate). I dont have any juni's so cant say for myself.
